Membership and Structure
Natd is a non profit making voluntary organisation. It is a democratic organisation with meetings at which the membership may come together to review the association and determine its policy. It is run by a committee (National Executive Committee - NEC) of people drawn from the membership who are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). All members of the association are eligible to stand for election to the NEC. Each member of the association has one vote. The association operates according to the principles set down in its constitution.
The association derives its income from:
- membership fees
- sales of journals
- conferences and workshops
- organising conferences and workshops and all the attendant expenses (e.g. contributors' fees/expenses; publicity etc)
- the production and mail out of the twice yearly Journal for Drama in Education
- National Executive Committee expenses
- Administrator's salary
The association holds an AGM every year when proposals determining its short term and long term policy are discussed. The finances of the association are examined at the AGM and the work of the previous year is reviewed.
If the need arises, an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) can be called at which proposals can be passed - providing of course there is a quorum. An EGM may be called at any time in the year. The conditions for calling an EGM are set out in the association's constitution. At the AGM a national executive committee (NEC) is elected to carry out the policy of the association as determined at the AGM. Unless otherwise stated it is assumed that this work also includes the organising of the annual conference and workshops during the year. Any member of the association is eligible to stand for election to the NEC. Committee members are not paid for the work they do for the association, but they do receive travel expenses for travel to the committee meetings.
For the first time two years ago, the association decided to pay for administrative assistance and create a non - executive paid post of administrator (part time). The association is fortunate to have negotiated time and space at the Arts Centre at the Specialist Arts College, Kingstone School in Barnsley. Now all the processing of membership and conference/workshop bookings, Journal mail outs is centrally carried out by the Administrator.
